“Utor” is the first ceremony in the Catholic weddings in Goa. It is the occasion when an agreement is made and the plans regarding weddings are discussed. The next thing is ring ceremony where bride and the groom exchange rings. Before the wedding ceremony, shopping of bride and groom’s dresees take place. The grooms dress is known as ‘saddo’ and the brides dress ‘torna boda’.

Registration of marriage is one of the important and mandatory steps in the Catholic weddings in Goa. The Civil registrar’s office is the body to register the weddings and requires two witnesses. Objections can be made within the three weeks of the weddings. Wedding banns are required to read aloud on these three Sundays. Afterwards the ‘Chuddo’ ceremony takes place where the bride is adorned with flowers and bangles of green colour. The next ceremony is the ‘Ross’ ceremony, marked by the application of coconut juice to the bride and groom. The concluding ceremony in the Catholic weddings in Goa is ‘Bicareanchem Jevonn’ when beggars are served with lunch in the remembrance of dead.
